What this collection covers
The heart sits close to the treatment field in a great many radiation courses, and it receives dose that was never meant for it. This collection gathers work on keeping that dose off the heart, and on catching cardiac change early in the years that follow.
We are commissioning and reviewing papers in five areas:
- Cardiac substructure delineation and dose reporting — how the chambers, valves, and coronary arteries are contoured, and how their dose is recorded consistently enough to compare between centers.
- Heart-sparing planning and delivery — the planning and technique choices that move dose away from cardiac structures.
- Patient selection and screening — who carries enough baseline cardiac risk that it should shape the treatment plan.
- Longitudinal surveillance — what to look for after treatment, with what test, and at what interval.
- Survivorship follow-up — carrying cardiac risk forward into long-term survivorship care.
