What is Dupuytren's contracture?

Dupuytren's contracture is a progressive condition in which the tissue under the skin of the palm thickens into nodules and cords, gradually pulling the fingers toward the palm. In its early stages — before the fingers are fixed in a bent position — radiation can slow or halt progression and help preserve hand function.
